In what has already been described as “the most epic meltdown in SMTB history”, Sam was embarrassingly defeated by Fernando at the Penmar Courts on 4/14/11. As usual, the first couple of games were fairly close, starting with a 2-2- tie. Sam soon began to dominate after several double faults from Fernando, and was able to close out on some other close games, building a very comfortable 5-2 lead. A visibly upset Fernando, who had already been displaying juvenile fits of anger (throwing his hat, hitting the net with his racket, etc.), recollected himself, and beat Sam in the next game handily with an impressive set of serves. Sam began to grow tired in the next game after an onslaught from Fernando, and Fernando slowly inched his was back from the brink to a 5-5 tie. It was at this point, after losing 3 matches in a row and blowing his lead, that Sam became completely demoralized. Fernando overcame his defecit to go on to easily win the next two games, with a final score of 7-5.
Fernando is now 7-2 against Sam.
